Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) declared the territorial purchasing power parity of 2107. Accordingly, İstanbul has Turkey’s highest level of price index with 114,8 while Ağrı, Kars Ardahan and Iğdır have the lowest level of price index with 93,5 based on the results of 2017. That index value indicated that İstanbul is 14,8% more expensive than other cities while Kars, Iğdır, Ardahan and Ağrı are 6,5% cheaper than other cities according to the average of Turkey.

The Most Expensive Cities: İstanbul, İzmir and Ankara

  • The highest level of price index of 111 in the main group of food and non- alcoholic beverages was in İstanbul but the lowest level of price index of 94,9 was in Diyarbakır and Şanlıurfa.
  • The highest price level index of 110,6 in clothing and footwear main group was in İzmir while the lowest price level index of 84,1 was in Ağrı, Iğdır, Kars and Ardahan.
  • In transportation main group, the highest price level of 107,1 was in İzmir while the lowest price level index of 93,5 was in Diyarbakır and Şanlıurfa.
  • In the main group of housing which has the highest range, the highest price level index of 150,1 was in İstanbul but the lowest price level index of 84,5 was in Batman, Siirt, Şırnak and Mardin.
  • The highest price level index of 118,3 was in Ankara while the lowest price level index of 91,7 was in Kahramanmaraş, Osmaniye and Hatay in the main group of restaurants and hotels.

The Cheapest Cities: Osmaniye, Diyarbakır, Şanlıurfa

  • According to TÜİK’s declaration, in alcoholic beverages and tobacco main group which has one of the lowest ranges, the highest price level index of 100,2 was in Diyarbakır and Şanlıurfa while the lowest price level index of 99,8 in the same group was in Denizli, Muğla and Aydın.
  • In the household goods main group, the higest level of 108,7 was in İzmir but the lowest level of 89,5 was in Kahramanmaraş, Hatay and Osmaniye.
  • In health main group, the highest level of 145,3 was in Ankara while the lowest level of 73,8 was in Mardin, Batman, Siirt and Şırnak.
  • In the entertainment and culture main group, the highest level of 106,6 was in İstanbul while the lowest level of 94,9 was in Mardin, Şırnak, Batman and Siirt.
  • In education main group, the highest level of 141,7 was in İstanbul but the lowest level of 76,9 was in Şanlıurfa and Diyarbakır.
  • In the main group of various goods and services, the highest price level index of 110,1 was in İstanbul while the lowest price level index of 91,1 was in Ağrı, Ardahan, Iğdır and Kars.
  • There was no change in the main group of communication because of various prices.
