The government is preparing to pass a 5-year giant project against earthquake risk. At the last meeting of the Council of Ministers, the project was commissioned. Environment and Urban Development Minister Mehmet Özhaseki informed the board about the project. The project will be presented to the approval of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Laws will be issued after Erdogan’s approval. Accordingly, all risky buildings in Turkey will be transformed in 5 years. For this, in the first stage, a resource of 75 billion pounds will be transferred. Here are the details of the project:
7.5 MILLION TRANSFORMATION
There are about 25 million housing estates in Turkey. 10 million of these were made after the 1999 Marmara Earthquake. Of the remaining 15 million, 50 percent are risky. 2 million of the 5 million independent units in Istanbul were built after the 1999 earthquake.
BUILDING BASED INCENTIVE
Urban transformation has not reached the desired speed. New incentive mechanisms will be introduced for acceleration. Everyone will be able to measure their own building and be renewed. A system will be established to encourage contractors and building owners.
A new organization will be established for Istanbul. İSMEP named unit connected to the governor, will be connected to the Ministry of Environment and Urbanism. This unit only worked for the conversion of public buildings in Istanbul. Will be included in the private after the connection, will look at every job related to transformation.
According to the briefing presented to the Council of Ministers, funds will be provided from abroad for the financing of the project
